Mining for Gold in Mark
Early tradition agrees that the author of Mark’s Gospel was John Mark, a close associate of Peter. Mark is a Gospel of action, moving rapidly from one scene to the next. The Greek word “eutheos”, usually translated as “immediately” appears 42 times in Mark's Gospel. This is more than all of the other books of the New Testament combined.  Written during the persecution of Nero and the execution of Paul and Peter, two giants of the faith, the gospel of Mark challenges its readers to stand strong even in the midst of persecution.  It reminds Christians that, whoever desires to follow Jesus, must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him. Let’s unearth the GOLD in Mark and discover together the action steps that move us forward in our faith even and sometimes especially when times are tough.
