History
In 2020, as the new church buildings were going up, a church couple had a dream of a “church garden” on the property. They recruited the help of other members who volunteered time prepping the soil, installing irrigation and laying out the beds. The vision for the garden expanded into a “learning garden” where young and old, experienced and inexperienced could come together to learn about gardening. Outreach was made to the middle school and other community groups and the dream expanded to become a “community garden”.
The Garden Today
- People can have a raised bed garden box to grow flowers and vegetables.
- Cut flowers from the cutting garden for weddings, funerals, and celebrations.
- School children come and learn about seeds, planting, growing, and harvesting.
- Sunday school children experience God’s wonder and beauty in nature.
- Small groups, families, and friends can gather for a picnic, or find a quiet place to relax and reflect.
- Students who need community service hours can help tend the garden.
Maintenance
The cost of maintaining the garden – soil amendments, fertilizing, irrigation, weed control – is covered by church funds, donations and grants. Planting, weeding and maintenance is done by dedicated volunteers, as well as individuals tending their garden boxes, April – October.
